THE DAY OF YOUR APPOINTMENT
When you arrive at the clinic, you may be greeted by a security guard who will confirm that you have an appointment. Next the receptionist will give you paperwork to fill out and accept your method of payment. You will be called back to have blood drawn for lab work and an ultrasound will be performed to verify the stage of pregnancy. Next you will talk with a counselor who will discuss with you the procedure, pain medications, and after-abortion care. She will also review your personal health history, have you fill out more forms, and ensure that you are fully aware of options, risks, and what happens during the procedure.
After counseling, you are ready for the abortion. You will be called back to an exam room where the procedure will be performed. You undress from the waist down for the procedure. During an abortion, the pregnancy is removed from the uterus. What the procedure is like depends primarily upon the stage of pregnancy and types of anesthesia.
Note: weeks are measured since Last Menstrual Period (LMP).
